Terms of Service
1. Introduction
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Decision Journal (“DJ,” “we,” “our,” or “us”), an AI-powered decision journaling web application. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms.
These Terms are effective as of July 1, 2026. If you do not agree to them, do not use the service.
2. Private beta
Decision Journal is currently available only to invited users as part of a private beta program. As a beta user, you understand and accept that:
- Access to the service is provided at our discretion and may be revoked at any time.
- There is no service-level agreement (SLA) or uptime guarantee. The service may be unavailable without notice for maintenance, bugs, or redesign.
- Features may be added, changed, or removed without warning.
- We may modify or discontinue the service entirely at any time during the beta period.
- The product is still being developed. You may encounter bugs, incomplete features, or unexpected behavior. We welcome your feedback — it's why you're here.
3. Eligibility
To use Decision Journal, you must:
- Be at least 13 years of age
- Have received a valid invitation to the private beta
- Have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement
- Not be prohibited from using the service under applicable law
By creating an account, you represent that you meet all of these requirements.
4. Your account
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Do not share your password or allow others to access your account.
If you suspect unauthorized access to your account, notify us immediately at hi@decisionjournal.ai. We are not liable for losses resulting from unauthorized account use that occurs because your credentials were compromised.
5. License to use the service
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-commercial, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use Decision Journal for your own private decision-making purposes.
This license does not include the right to resell access to the service, build competing products using our interface or outputs, or use the service for any commercial purpose without our prior written consent.
6. Your content
You own the decision entries, notes, and conversations you create in Decision Journal. We do not claim ownership of your content.
By using the service, you grant Decision Journal a limited license to store, process, and transmit your content solely for the purpose of operating the service — for example, sending your conversation text to an AI provider to generate a response. This license ends when you delete your content or close your account.
You can export all of your content at any time from within the app, and you can request permanent deletion at any time. See our Privacy Policy for details on data retention.
7. AI usage and consent
By using Decision Journal, you consent to your conversation text being transmitted to third-party large language model (LLM) providers — currently Anthropic — to generate AI responses. These providers process your data under their own terms and privacy policies.
AI-generated responses in Decision Journal are a thinking tool, not professional advice. Nothing the AI says should be construed as legal, financial, medical, or psychological advice. You are solely responsible for the decisions you make, including any decisions informed by DJ's suggestions.
We will not use your decision journal content to train AI models without your explicit, separate opt-in consent.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Attempt to access other users' accounts, data, or conversations
- Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the service
- Share your account credentials with others
- Use the service to store or transmit content that is illegal, harmful, or violates any third party's rights
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or derive source code from the service
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the service
We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate these guidelines, with or without notice.
9. Intellectual property
Decision Journal — including the application, its design, the cognitive bias library (157 patterns), the bias taxonomy, and all related software — is owned by Decision Journal and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms do not transfer any ownership rights to you.
Feedback, bug reports, and feature suggestions you share with us may be used to improve the product without obligation or compensation to you.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
The service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. As a private beta product, bugs are expected and appreciated as feedback.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Decision Journal and its founders, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of — or inability to use — the service.
In particular, Decision Journal is not liable for any decisions you make, financial losses, or outcomes that result from using AI-generated content within the app. DJ is a journaling and reflection tool; your decisions are your own.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.
12. Termination
During the private beta, we may suspend or terminate your access at any time for any reason, including discontinuing the beta program entirely. We will make reasonable efforts to give you notice and allow you to export your data before termination, but this is not guaranteed.
You may cancel your account at any time from the app settings. Upon cancellation, we will delete your data within 30 days as described in our Privacy Policy.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the service shall be resolved in the courts of Delaware, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.
